Let’s be honest: it is completely normal to feel a few butterflies before your first aesthetic treatment. In fact, most of our favorite patients were a little nervous the first time they walked through our doors!
You might be excited about the potential results—looking more rested, refreshed, and like the best version of yourself. But you might also be unsure about the actual process. Will it hurt? What if I have questions? Is there anything I shouldn’t have eaten for lunch?
At Royale Medical Health, we believe that confidence starts with clarity. We want to take the mystery out of the process so you can relax. Whether you are searching for Botox appointment preparation in Albuquerque or just curious about how it all works, this guide will walk you through every step of the “Royale Experience.”
Step 1: The Consultation (It’s a Conversation, Not a Quiz)
The moment you arrive, you’ll realize this isn’t a cold, clinical doctor’s office. It’s a space designed for you to feel comfortable.
The first step is the Royale Medical Health consultation. Think of this less like a medical exam and more like a strategy session with a knowledgeable friend. We aren’t just going to start injecting immediately; we’re going to talk.
We start by discussing what actually bothers you when you look in the mirror. Is it the deep line between your brows when you focus on a screen? Is it the fine lines around your eyes when you smile? Or maybe you just feel like you look “tired” even when you’ve had eight hours of sleep.
We will also ask about your medical history to ensure safety—this is a standard part of the med spa intake process. Honesty is key here, so we can ensure the treatment is perfectly safe for you.
Then, we watch your face in motion. We’ll ask you to frown, smile, and raise your eyebrows. This isn’t silly; it helps us see exactly how your unique muscles move so we can place the product for the most natural result.
Step 2: Botox Appointment Preparation Checklist (The “Pre-Game”)
One of the most common questions we get is, “Is there anything I need to do to get ready?”
The good news is that preparing for your appointment is very simple. You don’t need to take time off work or rearrange your entire week. However, there are a few things you should avoid for about 24–48 hours before your appointment to minimize the risk of bruising.
Here is a quick checklist of what to do before Dysport or Botox:
- Skip the Wine: Alcohol acts as a vasodilator and thins the blood, which can increase the chance of a small bruise at the injection site. Save the glass of Pinot for celebrating your results later!
- Pause Certain Supplements: Fish oil, Vitamin E, and Ginkgo Biloba are great for your general health, but they can also act as mild blood thinners. If possible, pause these a few days prior to your visit.
- Avoid Aspirin/NSAIDs: Unless prescribed by a doctor for a medical condition, try to avoid Ibuprofen or Aspirin right before your visit. Tylenol is a great alternative if you need pain relief, as it doesn’t thin the blood.
- Hydrate: Living in the high desert of New Mexico, our skin is often thirsty. Coming in well-hydrated helps your skin recover faster and look its best.
Step 3: The Treatment (Blink and You’ll Miss It)
Once we have a plan and you’re ready to move forward, the actual treatment is surprisingly quick.
Many first-timers are worried about pain, which is completely valid! But most patients are pleasantly surprised by how easy it is. We use incredibly small needles—specialized for comfort—and the sensation is often described as a tiny pinch or a mosquito bite. It is nothing like getting a vaccine or a blood draw.
If you are worried about sensitivity, just let us know. We can use ice or a topical numbing cream to make the experience even easier. Your comfort is our priority.
The injection part of the appointment typically takes less than 15 minutes. We are strategic and precise with our placement. Our goal is never to freeze you; it’s to soften the expressions that cause static lines while keeping you looking like you.

Step 4: Immediately After (Can I Go Back to Work?)
You’re done! Now, what about the rest of your day?
Another reason we love neuromodulators is that there is virtually no social downtime. You can absolutely go back to work, run errands, or pick up the kids immediately after leaving our clinic. No one will likely know you had anything done.
However, there are a few “rules” for the first 4 hours to ensure the product stays exactly where we placed it:
- Stay Upright: Try not to lie down flat for at least 4 hours. If you need to rest, prop yourself up with pillows.
- No Heavy Gym Sessions: Skip the intense cardio or hot yoga for 24 hours. Increased blood flow and heat can sometimes diffuse the product or increase swelling.
- Hands Off: Avoid rubbing the treated area or getting a facial massage on the same day. Let the product settle.
- Smile!: Some studies suggest that exercising the treated muscles (frowning and smiling) in the hour after treatment helps the product uptake faster.
